چکیده

Many questions related to the cellular mechanisms of lung injury/toxicity from highdose exposure to militarily relevant toxic gases, chemicals and/or irritants still remain unanswered. This is primarily due to limited interest in the toxicity of such high-level exposures in the civilian sector. Early detection and delineation of cellular changes following exposure to high-level environmental oxidants/irritants is essential for the development of much-needed preventive strategies and tools for therapeutic intervention, and also for monitoring preand post-deployment ‘lung health’, of active duty U.S. solders. A number of militarily relevant environmental and occupational ‘insults’, such as noxious irritants, air-born particulates, toxic gases, chemicals and pathogens have been shown to cause acute pulmonary inflammation/injury, which often lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multi-organ dysfunctions and/or failures. The same is applicable to blast overpressure (BOP) shockwave induced lung and/or multi-organ injury, which is currently a major concern in today’s Force Health Protection and Military Operational Medicine.

Cytochrome b5 and Cytokeratin 17 Are Biomarkers in Bronchoalveolar Fluid Signifying Onset of Acute Lung Injury

Acute lung injury (ALI) is characterized by pulmonary edema and acute inflammation leading to pulmonary dysfunction and potentially death. Early medical intervention may ameliorate the severity of ALI, but unfortunately, there are no reliable biomarkers for early diagnosis. We screened for biomarkers in a mouse model of ALI. In this model, inhalation of S. aureus enterotoxin A causes increased ...

Time-dependent changes of autophagy and apoptosis in lipopolysaccharide-induced rat acute lung injury

Objective(s): Abnormal lung cell death including autophagy and apoptosis is the central feature in acute lung injury (ALI). To identify the cellular mechanisms and the chronology by which different types of lung cell death are activated during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI, we decided to evaluate autophagy (by LC3-II and autophagosome) and apoptosis (by caspase-3) at different time point...

Different Biomarkers of Acute kidney Injury in Cancer Patients

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs if the kidneys suddenly lose their ability to remove waste products. When the kidneys lose their ability to filter, dangerous levels of waste products can accumulate, which can upset the chemical composition of the blood and urine. Chemotherapy is one of the methods used to treat or temporarily reduce cancer by using certain medications. The main task of this tr...

Time course changes of oxidative stress and inflammation in hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury in rats

Objective(s):Therapies with high levels of oxygen are commonly used in the management of critical care. However, prolonged exposure to hyperoxia can cause acute lung injury. Although oxidative stress and inflammation are purported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of acute lung injury, the exact mechanisms are still less known in the hyperoxic acute lung injury (HALI).   Materials ...

Effect of Lung Recruitment Maneuver in Children with Acute Lung Injury

Background Acute lung injury (ALI) is defined as PaO2/FiO2 less than 300 with bilateral pulmonary infiltrates, without pressure is the top of the left atrium. Early diagnosis and treatment of pediatric ALI and find new cases is very important. Accurate diagnosis and effective steps to treating these patients is essential in the outcome of ALI. This study was conducted to show the impact of recr...
